Where to stay in Ibiza? Areas and types of accommodation

Despite its small size, only 572 km2, it’s not always easy to choose where to stay in Ibiza, as it depends on the type of holidays you prefer. Especially when it’s the first time on the island and you don’t know each area’s character. If you don’t know where to look for a hotel, read on and discover our recommendations.

Ibiza, from north to south, from east to west

On the White Island, every visitor finds the ideal beach or village for their favourite holiday, whether it’s for families, clubbing, fun, hippie atmosphere, glamour, alternative vibes... What’s your favourite type of holiday?

It is a good idea to stay in the north of Ibiza?

For many decades, this was the least explored area on the island, with only two holiday villages: Portinatx and Port Sant Miquel. Nowadays it’s one of the favourite areas for travellers who seek a quiet and family-friendly destination, where they can enjoy a relaxed holiday, mostly in rural accommodation and villas. Cala Benirrás, Aigües Blanques, the street market of Sant Joan and the church of Sant Miquel are the main attractions in this area that is a 30 minute drive from the centre of Ibiza city and 40 minutes from the sunsets in San Antonio, Ses Salines beach and the airport, among other places. If you’d like to get away from the hustle and bustle to simply sunbathe, eat excellent food and read on the beach, here’s your answer to the question, where to stay in Ibiza?

The south of Ibiza, the place to be seen

On the stretch between Playa d’en Bossa and Cala d´Hort you will find many different Ibizas: the one with the luxury mansions, the one for clubbers, the one for instagrammers and celebrities, the one for young people... Es Vedrà island, Ses Salines beach, the most popular beach clubs in Ibiza... This is the most lively and dynamic Ibiza and it’s only a few minutes’ drive from the airport and Ibiza city and less than 30 minutes from San Antonio, Platges de Comte and Cala d´Hort. If you like holidays to see and be seen, stay in the holiday village of Playa d’en Bossa and you will be only a step away from all the action. We know it well, as Ibiza Sun Apartments is less than a two minute walk from its shore!

What about a hotel in the east of Ibiza?

The area that stretches from Aigües Blanques to Cala Llonga is the favourite area for families travelling from the UK, Germany and the Netherlands, given all the kid-friendly hotels in this area. The village of Santa Eulària, with its restaurants and shops; the holiday village of Es Canar, the beaches of Es Figueral and Cala Nova, the hippie street markets of Punta Arabí and Las Dalias... these are some of the attractions on the eastern coast of Ibiza. If you’re travelling with kids and you’re wondering where to stay in Ibiza, this area is ideal.

The west of Ibiza, the most diverse Ibiza

From Cala d´Hort to Sant Mateu we find the Ibiza known for San Antonio bay and its sunsets, some of the most picturesque beaches in Ibiza and country postcard material inland. The range of places to stay is very diverse, from luxury hotels to family hotels, boutique hotels, villas, rural accommodation, camping sites and urban hotels in San Antonio. Depending on the area, you can go for a family atmosphere, like you’ll find at the hotels in Cala Vedella, Cala Tarida and Cala Gració. If you choose this area, we suggest you hire a car, as the most beautiful beaches are outside San Antonio bay and most of the nightlife is far away from the hotels in Cala Vedella and Cala Tarida.

Ibiza city, the ideal choice for city urbanites

The centre of Ibiza and the district of Ses Figueretes are the favourite places for those who wish to stay at a city hotel and be close to all the restaurants available in the island’s capital. This is a good choice if you don’t want to rent a car and you’d rather visit the island by bus. In our previous article, “Moving around Ibiza without a car”, we told you all about the bus lines available in the summer and their daily frequency, that will vary depending on the destination.
