Where's Ibiza?

If you're Spanish, you probably know where's Ibiza and where  to find Ibiza on the map. But if you aren’t, you may not be sure where one of the most famous islands in the world is and you’ll want to know where your next destination is.

Ibiza, the most fun island in the Mediterranean Sea

Ibiza is in Spain, southern Europe, and is part of the Illes Balears (Balearic Islands). This archipelago is made up of Majorca, Menorca, Formentera and Cabrera islands, and a bunch of islets, the biggest of which are Dragonera, Ille de Colom, Tagomago, Espalmador and S’Espardell. To the south of Majorca, Ibiza and Formentera are known as the Pitiusas Islands, which were mentioned by Plinio el Viejo (22-79 AD) in his Natural History (Historia Natural) where he talks about the pine trees on the island, as pytis means pine in Greek.

Where is Ibiza?

Ibiza is on the western side of the Mediterranean Sea, 79km from the Iberian Peninsula (Denia is the closest port), 80km to the southeast of Majorca and 7km away from Formentera. It measures 572km2 and its mountainous orography alternates between valleys and hills, where the highest is Sa Talaia, 475 metres high.

The island is connected by ferry to the ports of La Savina (Formentera), Valencia, Denia (Alicante), Palma (Mallorca), Maó (Menorca) and Barcelona. By air, Ibiza is connected to the main airports in Spain and, in summer, to many European cities. In winter, it keeps its daily flights to London, Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Dusseldorf and Paris.

Where’s Playa d’en Bossa in Ibiza?

Ibiza is divided into five municipalities: Sant Antoni de Portmany to the west; Sant Joan de Labritja to the north; Santa Eulària des Riu to the east; Sant Josep de sa Talaia to the south and south-west; and Eivissa (Ibiza), which is the name given to the capital too. Playa d’en Bossa, home to Ibiza Sun Apartments, is one of the main holiday towns in Ibiza and it’s on the east coast of the island, less than 5 km from Ibiza airport and the old city centre (an 8 minute drive).

Playa d’en Bossa stretches along its eponymous beach, the longest in Ibiza, and has a broad and exciting nightlife and many restaurants, including some of the most popular beach clubs on the island. Also, it’s in such a good location that you can easily get to other well-known beaches nearby, like Ses Salines, Es Cavallet, Es Bol Nou (Sa Caleta) and Cala Jondal. You can get to the first two by bus, but to get to Sa Caleta or Cala Jondal you’ll need to rent a car or get a taxi.
